What is a transmission service?
What can I do…..

You can help prevent major failures by regularly checking the fluid level (for help, check your vehicle owner’s manual or ask a Russ Moore Service Manger). We are happy to show you & will always top up your fluid level “FREE of CHARGE” at any Russ Moore location. Also check on the garage floor after parking the vehicle over night for any leaks, if you see reddish-brown oil this may be the transmission leaking fluid and remember, if your fluid is not a nice bright red color or smells burnt this can be a sign of old fluid.

If any of these conditions exist, contact your nearest Russ Moore location to schedule a check-up. Remember that you should schedule regular transmission services; Russ Moore recommends the following general guidelines for transmission services (see other side for the types of service available)

12 months or 20,000 miles

4X4 vehicles, pick-up trucks & SUV’s (full & mid-size), performance (mustang, firebird, import & modified) and older/higher mileage vehicles

24 months or 40,000 miles

Highway vehicles, cars, mini-van’s, family sedans, luxury vehicles.

General Service – this is the basic transmission fluid & filter service. The transmission pan’s removed, discarding the old fluid in the pan and removing the filter. The fluid & filter are both checked for signs of internal transmission wear and contamination, if we find either condition, our Service Manager will always advise you on what was found and what it means to your transmission, depending on the diagnosis we can present you with several repair options. This type of service replaces approximately ½ to 2/3 of the actual fluid in the transmission system. The transmission will receive a new filter (some have non-accessible filters), new fluid and then tested for leaks.

Complete System Flush – this is recommended; in addition to all the steps above, the complete transmission system is purged of any old fluid and then flushed with new fluid (called: Power Flushing), thereby replacing all the old & damaged fluid. This will ensure new fluid is contained within the system, radiator cooler, fluid lines, torque converter etc, not only within the transmission itself.
